An elderly Chinese businessman in the Solomon Islands is recovering after being stabbed in a botched robbery attack.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local Chinese community which is still reeling from the murder of two shopkeepers in Honiara last year, Pacific Beat reports.

Matthew Quan, the president of the Solomon Islands’ Chinese Association said there has been an increase in crimes against Chinese business operators because of tough economic times.

He said this latest incident was a cowardly and opportunistic attack on a frail old man.
