Officials at the Pacific Mini Games are maintaining their position on Fiji sprinter Aaron Powell, who was disqualified earlier this week for allegedly breaking before the race started.

Powell made it over the line first but was deemed to be not eligible for the gold medal, a decision which the head of Fiji’s Sports and Olympic Committee Joe Rodan has called ‘daylight robbery’, and added that Vanuatu shouldn’t be hosting the event if they don’t have the appropriate equipment, Pacific Beat reports.

The Games Director Barry Mullins said they weren’t able to re-call the athletes because of a lack of equipment.

PNG journalist Sophie Yaruso, who’s in Port Vila to cover the games, says there’s plenty of frustration among the Fiji athletes.
