With less than a month to go until Van2017, VFF has decided to send the Vanuatu senior team for a 10 days football training camp in Australia. During their first game on Sunday the senior team lost to Sydney FC Youth team 3-0.
This was Vanuatu’s senior men’s team.
Earlier this year, on the month of February, Digicel Amicale FC came out to beat Western Sydney Wanderers FC Youth Team 4-1, winning the 2017 Grand Casino Cup.
A local club was able to beat an A League Youth Team, while the Vanuatu Senior team wasn’t.
Some people explained this by players having a jet lag and that they have only been training together for a month, but Vanuatu clearly needs to do more in order for them to have a chance to win a medal during Pacific Games, something that Vanuatu as a host should be fighting for.
