The President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, is due to arrive in Marshall Islands on Monday, for her first stopover on a diplomatic tour across the Pacific that will also take in Tuvalu and Solomon Islands.

They are among a group of six Pacific islands countries, and just 20 around the world, who maintain diplomatic relationships with the Chinese state, reports Pacific Beat.

According to Giff Johnson, the editor of the Marshall Islands Journal, the connection between the Marshalls and Taiwan is extremely important, particularly for the Taiwanese.
