The growth and development of soccer in Fiji is set to go up a level in the new year, with a group of players from the national squad being offered the chance to earn professional contracts with clubs in Indonesia, reports Pacific Beat.

But while coach Christophe Gamel is taking steps towards getting overseas experience for the best of his players, he’s concerned that his work is being undermined by some club coaches back in Fiji.

He wants to address the problem of poor coaching standards as a matter of urgency, so that more players can have the opportunity to play overseas.
