More than 630,000 students around the world took part in the International English Competition, known as “The Big Challenge,” in May, 2017. And students of the French School Le Clézio in Port Vila have won this competition.

The Prize Ceremony for Vanuatu took place on September 29, 2017, at the French School Le Clézio.

This year, more that 120 students from the French School have been enrolled in this English Competition. Mr Louis Arsac, Counsellor for Cooperation, Culture and Development at the French Embassy said he was delighted to see that francophone Ni-Vanuatu students have reached such a high level in the mastery of the English language.

Year 6 student Karissa Guillain got the highest score possible with 350 points out of 350. Another student, Quinn Hannam, currently in Year 8, got 342.50 points out of 350, and was ranked Second Best internationally.

The participants had 45 minutes to answer 45 questions in English. The questions dealt with grammar, vocabulary and spelling, but also with history, geography and literature from the English-speaking world.

Mrs Véronique Ruel, Project Coordinator at the French School, said that “such a success would not have been possible without everyone’s contribution.”
