Following the report on Vanuatu Football Federation organizing a national football tournament on Ambae island, where a State of Emergency has been declared, Vanuatu Football Federation CEO, Albert Manaroto, responded in Facebook.
“No sulphur to sniff, but fresh air. Life seems pretty normal, kava bars on till 9pm. Saratamata is a ‘safe Zone’ where people have been evacuated to from more disaster prone areas,” he said.
“Everybody seems content that entertainment is necessary to ease anxiety given the current wave of information. Provincial officials and Government agencies showing confidence in their planning. It seems Penama people are very capable of taking care of their own. Relieve committees are being set up in village. Churches and schools opening up to people. Vanuatu should applaud these people. Sad part though was a state of emergency flare by a local scientist, which was never communicated or received officially.”
This comment was made yesterday (Tuesday) on Manaroto’s Facebook wall, the same day Acting Head of State, Speaker of Parliament, Esmon Sai signed the National Disaster Act, to declare a State of Emergency on Ambae.
