A government report in Marshall Islands is warning that the country’s social security program is on the verge of collapse.

Tabled in parliament as part of the Budget, the report says a US$7 million shortfall in funds for welfare payments is the Marshalls’ most serious economic problem, reports Pacific Beat.

Giff Johnson, Editor of the Marshall Islands journal, said a number of recommendations have been put forward that are aimed at solving the issue.
