The Ministry of Agriculture, Live stock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity (MALFFB) of Vanuatu visited the Port Narvin on Erromango island.
The delegation led by the Minister Matai Seremaiah attended the official launch of potato harvest at Port Narvin, along with officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Delegation has also visited an aspiring aquaculture farmer in Erromango who invested 6 months of his time and efforts into constructing the tilapia fish pond, and linking it to his taro plot.
At the Port Narvin Primary School the potato training was conducted for farmers, students, women and children. The school Headmaster and the North Erro Area Secretary were very supportive of the new potato program initiative and delighted with the positive results they are seeing.
“The school started venturing into potato farming this year with just a few hand tools. Now with positive results, the Minister stressed that through the school more children should learn about potato and other crops, and assured them that a tractor will arrive very shortly to help them mass produce these crops,” – the Department blong Agriculture Vanuatu reports.
