As part of its preparedness activities to prevent measles in Vanuatu, the Ministry of Health is providing free measles vaccination to all children aged 6 months to 15 years around Port Vila.
This group is prioritized because young babies are most at risk of suffering serious complications from measles, like blindness, deafness and death.
Since the beginning of this month, the Ministry of Health is hiring service buses to transport medical team to vaccinate children around the town.
Other groups whom are provided free measles vaccination under the plan as they are more at risk of getting exposed to the virus through their occupations are the following:
. Travellers to countries with ongoing measles outbreak (at least 2 weeks before departure)
. RSE/SWP workers
. Health care workers
. Airports and seaports staff
. Air crew and international maritime workers
. Transportation staff (bus, taxi)
. Hospitality staff (hotels, resorts)
