The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and the Department of Labour (DoL), in collaboration with the Pacific Labour Facility (PLF), the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trades (DFAT) and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trades (MFAT), are jointly organising a stakeholder workshop for the development of a Reintegration Framework for Agriculture Workers in Labour Mobility Schemes.
It is a policy objective of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Bio-Security through Agriculture Sector Policy and the Overarching Productive Sector Policy to encourage skilled productive sector workers to invest their knowledge and capital into productive sector on return to Vanuatu.
To date, however, there is no framework to facilitate this process at each stage of the labour mobility journey.
This workshop is an opportunity to bring together the key actors involved in labour mobility to establish a supportive pathway for reintegration of skilled agricultural workers into the Vanuatu agriculture sector.
The workshop takes place today at Warwick Le Lagon Hotel in Port Vila.
