Vanuatu Prime Minister Charlot Salwai has signed a deal with the Chinese Government for funding of the first ever tar seal road on Pentecost.
The deal is for a 50 km tar seal road to commence this year. 50% of the funding is a form of grant from Chinese Government while 50% is a loan from China.
The 50 km road is from Melsisi to Lonorore.
Pentecost’s contribution to Vanuatu GDP is high. Statistics show that Pentecost is the biggest user of fuel after Efate and Santo and one of the biggest buyer of vehicles in Vanuatu.
The road infrastructure is highly needed on this island and that is the reason behind the Government decision to give to the people of Pentecost
