The minister of Education, Jean-Pierre Nirua, told Parliament that plan is underway for the establishment of a management training institution to provide skills to Ni-Vans to become principals in secondary schools throughout Vanuatu.
“People who occupied the post of principal on acting basis were trained to become teachers and not principals. They were not provided with management skills,” the minister said.
He added that Vanuatu will have the opportunity to train its citizens to become principals in its secondary schools.
Mr Niura made the clarifications to brush aside the criticism that the government through the Teaching Service Commission still employs all principals of secondary schools on acting basis since 1980.
He was answering the question raised on Monday by the Labor MP for Port Vila Constituency Ephraim Kalsakau who wished to know when people who are acting principals will be appointed on permanent position.
