The community of Melsisi in Central Pentecost needs to do refurbishment works on their church house as this year marks 60 years since it was opened in 1959.
Melsisi Parish Council is in need and calls on natives from this catholic parish to assist.
A network has been organized to collect funds from the community back to the island and natives from Melsisi living on Santo, Efate and on other islands.
The money collected will help to buy material for refurbishment works as the biggest church house in Vanuatu is 60 years old this year.
It was built through the commitment of Father Paul Monnier, the priest from France, who was in charge on Melsisi Parish in 50s and the community. It was opened in 1959.
40 years later, on November 1999, the building was severely damaged by an earthquake. A decision was taken by the Catholic Mission to destroy the full building but an old builder from Vanmelang by the name of Maurice Barang decided to repair it at his own way. His sacrifice has helped the church house to stand strong until today.
