When people from Ambae who have evacuated their entire island due to volcanic eruptions last year are returning home following the lapse of the State of Emergency, many thoughts arise from their mind with plans on how they should be treated next time if the same disaster strikes again.
With difficult situation they have gone through and this kind of living they must adopt in very bad conditions, only words that come to their mind are ‘Enough is enough’. People with their chiefs, priests or pastors and community leaders have each plan on how they should handle any kind of situations related to the natural disasters.
For Father Stanley Aru from Anglican Diocese of Vanuatu, the only solution to avoid big money spending on evacuation to other islands and bad living condition as it was the case in the past two years, is evacuation centres he wishes to see on Ambae.
“I think it is more better for the government to build evacuation centres in safe places in our island. We have places that could not be affected by disaster related to volcano and where our people can move to if our volcano causes us problem again,” the Anglican priest told Vois Blong Penama.
