Many residents of Peacock Estate (Malapoa Estate) frequented this place and passed through this path without knowing that bombs were under their foots.
During the last rainfall, cars passed through this path and created mud where these bombs have been buried, certainly at the end of Second World War (1939-1945). When the soil turned soft after rainfall, these bombs become visible in the ground.
A resident who passed through the area has spotted an object in the ground. When he saw it was a bomb he immediately alerted the Vanuatu Mobile Force. The first digging has put in light six bombs. VMF officers who were in the site have reportedly said it was possible more bombs were buried in the area.
VMF has to find a specialist qualified in bomb disposal to defuse the hazardous explosive. GM
