The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was interested last week in the deal being made by the Shefa Provincial Council to let what is to be Shefa Guest House to a local businesswoman who made it become Matnapuka Office Complex.
The PAC summoned on Wednesday afternoon the Secretary General of Shefa Provincial Council, Zachariah Daniel, to justify the deal as, for the committee, there was no record of steps taken leading to where the building which is an asset to the province, is now. The PAC claimed that transparency has not been applied during the process before granting the right for rent to the businesswoman.
Zachariah Daniel told the PAC that when he became Secretary General of Shefa Provincial Council in December last year, he knew anything about the deal being made with the businesswoman, until August this year when all documents related to the deal have been made available for an agreement.
