After gaining victory in the recent by election on Tanna, the Vanuatu Leaders Party (VLP) becomes the main threat to Vanua’aku Pati (VP) in one of the biggest constituencies in the country as it used to be the last remaining stronghold for the longest political party which led the New Hebrides to the independence in 1980.
Many years following independence, the Union of Moderate Parties (UMP) has been the traditional rival to VP on Tanna. Today the political group led by Serge Vohor, with its half rotten roots on Tanna, still survives with numbers but has found very difficult to succeed with it candidate, Robin Kapapa, in the latest legislative race. Robin Kapapa, lawyer by profession, has been Vanuatu Republican Party’s candidate in January 2016 snap Elections.
