When the 10th Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu kicks off, Team Athletics, now having 66 members at the training camp for Team Vanuatu at Erakor village, will be looking to break the Vanuatu record for the most medals at Pacific Mini Games.
Athletics Vanuatu President, Jansen Molisingi stated during the Oceania National Olympic Committee Media Workshop that Athletics Vanuatu is eyeing 7 Gold medals for Vanuatu.
“During Athletics 5 months training in China, 2 National Records were broken, and that to me shows commitment and sacrifice from our athletes.
“Speaking from timings, performance, training and 6 expert coaches who are with the team right now, we are expecting 7 Gold medals for athletics during the Games.
“But again there are a lot of factors that can hinder us from getting there,” Molisingi said.
“We are basing our claim for Gold Medals on timing. After the 5 months training in China we cross referenced the athletes timing along with the Vanuatu Record and Oceania Record, and came up with 7 Gold Medal for Vanuatu.”
At the moment there are 66 athletes in the training camp, but Molisingi said eventually they will trim that number down to 60 before the Games.
